AI: A Revolutionary Force Shaping Our Future, Not a Threat to Fear
By Piero Boccadoro – R&D Software Engineer
During last year, there was intense discussion about the various aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI), up to the point that it has been almost turned into a mass phenomenon. It has been a topic of conversation for teachers, tech companies as well as tech enthusiast, and various industries such as automotive, aerospace, architecture, medicine, and consumer electronics. The hype around this topic suggests that this is not just a passing trend; it demonstrates that AI represents a profound transformation that will leave a lasting impact on our society.
In the ongoing debate, two clear positions have emerged, overall: one group enthusiastically embraces AI as a testament to human intelligence, while the other group is apprehensive and fears its potential negative consequences on society, work, lifestyle. This polarization has muted, or at least made it difficult to express, nuanced opinions.
Many contributions to the discussion seem to oversimplify the complex picture by focusing on concerns, such as the fear that AI will eliminate jobs. However, the discussion should acknowledge the immense potential for AI applications without necessarily replacing existing jobs, but supporting workers, and creating brand new working places.
There are numerous pressing issues that AI could help address, including:
-
Creating an economic system that reduces social inequality.
-
Developing cybersecurity solutions for the era of quantum computing.
-
Finding clean and efficient energy production methods.
-
Recycling carbon dioxide.
-
Developing artificial blood.
-
Improving dementia care.
-
Understanding the human brain.
-
Managing sewer network inefficiencies in large cities.
-
Designing environmentally friendly housing systems.
-
Innovating new learning methods.
-
Developing a neural interface for understanding thoughts.
-
Creating a universal translator implant for the brain.
Some of these problems are groundbreaking and have already been out for a while, waiting to be solved. Some of them may be more feasible to solve than others, and efforts may already be underway to address them.
In Nextome, AI is a useful aid and it’s part of our technology. Indeed, it is considered as one of the leading pillar of our patented solution. Therefore, our experience suggests that AI should be considered as a launchpad and is greatly appreciated in terms of the pivotal role it has.
Hence, our opinion in that instead of responding to this revolutionary time with irrational fear, it would be more prudent to approach it with enthusiasm. Human resilience is a remarkable quality, and we should view this period as an opportunity to shape the world we want to live in tomorrow.
